OKI, a Tokyo-based information and telecommunication manufacturer, received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its FY2050 GHG emission reduction targets, which are among its mid- to long-term environmental targets.
OKI is working to achieve these targets by promoting decarbonization across its value chain, including its own sites, according to a statement.
The company’s FY2050 targets include achieving net zero CO2 emissions at OKI sites and its entire value chain, including net zero power consumption by new products.
One specific initiative consists of increasing the use of renewable energy. OKI is currently pursuing decarbonization by installing solar panels and concluding contracts for electricity derived from renewable energy sources at the Honjo Plant H1 building in Honjo, Saitama Prefecture, the first building in Japan to achieve zero emission building (ZEB) certification.
OKI plans to achieve its targets by developing energy-saving technologies for its hardware products, strengthening communication with suppliers and sourcing components from manufacturers that generate low CO2 emissions.
