Tanger, an owner and operator of outlet and open-air retail shopping destinations, announced a 13% increase in its solar energy generation capacity in 2024.

Tanger, an owner and operator of outlet and open-air retail shopping destinations, announced a 13% increase in its solar energy generation capacity in 2024.

As released in its 2024 Impact Report for the annual period ending December 31, 2024, the company’s total solar capacity is now 15.5 MW across 11 shopping centers, and 42% of its electricity consumption in 2024 came from renewable sources. The company’s overall electricity usage spanning direct and indirect sources totaled 28 million kWh.

Since 2015, Tanger installed over 15.5 MW of solar energy capacity across its portfolio, generating 9.2 million kWh of clean electricity in 2024.

In 2024, the company brought solar online at its Charleston and Savannah centers, increasing the solar infrastructure capacity 13% from 2023 to 2024.

In addition to on-site solar energy generation, Tanger procured 2.8 million kWh of grid-tied renewable energy in 2024.

Tanger will continue to strategically invest in on-site solar systems and grid-tied green power as energy markets evolve to further decarbonize and improve the financial performance of its portfolio, and set a goal to utilize renewable energy for 60% of its common area energy usage by 2030.

The company also completed a formal data assurance readiness assessment to improve data integrity and plan for state-level climate disclosure legislation, as well as a double materiality assessment to identify the most impactful and financially material environmental, social, and governance topics to its business and stakeholders.

Tanger completed an expanded enterprise and asset-level climate scenario analysis, restatement of Tanger’s GHG emissions baseline to align with standard methodologies, and inaugural limited disclosure of the company’s Scope 3 footprint.

“Tanger’s values of integrity, inclusion, and innovation guide the decisions and initiatives that drive our collective impact. In 2024, we deepened our community engagement, empowered our team, and advanced sustainability with a focus on mitigating risk and driving value for our stakeholders,” said CEO Stephen Yalof in a statement. “I’m proud of our team’s dedication to creating vibrant shopping destinations and resilient communities — and grateful for the trust of our stakeholders as we build a more connected, inclusive future together.”
