Toyota plans to invest $750 million in facilities in five different states as a way to increase production of hybrid vehicles, the company announced March 14.

The automaker’s largest plant, in Georgetown, Kentucky, will receive a $238 million investment and will increase production of the hybrid RAV4.

The Toyota Motor Manufacturing facility in Buffalo, West Virginia plans to double its production of the transaxles used in hybrid vehicles upon receiving its $111 million investment.

This follows an announcement earlier this week about Toyota’s intent to partner on a 100 MW solar project in Kentucky.

These latest investments represent even more examples of our long-term commitment to build where we sell,” said Jim Lentz, chief executive officer for Toyota Motor North America. “By boosting our U.S. manufacturing footprint, we can better serve our customers and dealers and position our manufacturing plants for future success with more domestic capacity.”
