STAG Industrial begins work on first of two community solar projects

STAG Industrial has broken ground on the first of its two community rooftop solar systems planned for Minnesota.

The real estate investment trust, whose portfolio consists of 430 properties across 37 states, partnered with Black Bear Energy for these two new solar projects and expects them to produce 11,808 kW of power. The projects will be community solar host sites and will power homes and businesses across the twin cities and surrounding areas.

Construction began in October and is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

"We are excited to see these solar installations get underway, and once complete, provide new distributed local energy for homeowners and businesses who are unable to host solar themselves,” Brian LaMont, Senior Vice President of Construction at STAG, said in a statement.  “We are committed to strategies that increase both the sustainability and the value of our portfolio, and the implementation of solar provides a great opportunity for us to leverage our square footage and to provide resources for the local community.”

Additionally, STAG has 20 MW of executed contracts for solar projects in development across four states.
