Walmart, Tesla settle solar panel fire lawsuit

Walmart and Tesla settled a lawsuit this week that Walmart filed in August accusing the energy company of negligence after rooftop solar panels caught on fire.

The lawsuit was filed after seven of Tesla’s rooftop solar installations caught on fire on top of Walmart stores between 2012 and 2018. Both parties have dropped the case.

The original lawsuit included Walmart suing Tesla for negligence and faulty installation and requested that Tesla cover the costs of removing its solar panels from more than 240 Walmart stores, according to a report from CNBC.

“Walmart and Tesla are pleased to have resolved the issues raised by Walmart concerning the Tesla solar installations at Walmart stores,” Walmart said in a statement released to Smart Energy Decisions. “Safety is a top priority for each company and with the concerns being addressed, we both look forward to a safe re-energization of our sustainable energy systems.”
