Bayer inks deal with wind farm in Mexico

Bayer announced Aug. 24 that they entered into a 15-year agreement with a wind farm to provide power to their Mexican operations, including four plants in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Tlaxcala and Veracruz and 23 operation centers.

Bayer Mexico completed the agreement with the Iberdrola wind farm in Santiago, aligning with the pharmaceutical giant’s target to reduce emissions 42% by 2029 and be carbon neutral from 2030. They plan to achieve a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per kilogram of yield in large agricultural markets by 2030 by focusing on emission-intensive forms of farming in the regions where they operate.

“By committing to reducing our emissions, we have set ourselves a very ambitious goal,” Werner Baumann, Chairman of the Board of Management and Chief Sustainability Officer of Bayer AG, said in a statement. “This is a crucial step as we pursue our grand goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030. With this initiative we demonstrate that our goal is to live up to our responsibility as a leading life sciences company in the fields of health and safety. nutrition. Climate change poses a threat to all of humanity and we must be absolutely determined to tackle it.”

The main strategies Bayer is pursuing to reduce their emissions are efficiency measures and a shift toward climate-neutral technologies like geothermal energy. They intend to eventually have 100% of their electricity use come from renewable sources.
