Intermountain Healthcare Inks Deal for 55,000 MWh of Solar Energy
Intermountain Healthcare will soon receive 20% of its electricity needs from a utility-scale solar project near Huntington, Utah.
The healthcare system completed a 20-year PPA for 55,000 MWh annually from Castle Solar Project, under development by D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). DESRI will own, construct and operate the facility, while Rocky Mountain Power will provide the transmission grid.
Some of the funds will go toward Utah’s public schools and institutions as the solar project falls partially on state trust lands.
“This is Intermountain’s biggest step in our commitment to help create a cleaner environment in the communities we serve,” Mikelle Moore, senior vice president and chief community health officer at Intermountain Healthcare, said in a statement. “We want to help drive the solutions that will clean our air and make us more sustainable in the future.”
The solar project should be operational by mid-2022.
