NYC’s Javits Convention Center Microgrid Project

Calibrant Energy

In a highly complex environment, Calibrant Energy, Siemens Smart Infrastructure, and the New York Power Authority were able to advance the largest rooftop solar project in Manhattan that includes a 3.5MW battery and advanced microgrid controls. The project is fully funded by Calibrant Energy — backed by Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group — via an “As a Service” agreement. In addition to providing Javits demand savings the battery is also helping to alleviate ConEdison’s most congested network. The custom solar canopy system was designed specifically to accommodate the unique characteristics of one of the largest green roofs in the U.S.

In this webinar, our panel will cover the following:

  • The important role NYPA played in originating the opportunity and representing the convention center’s interests.
  • The unique technical complexities that Siemens navigated, including considerations related to the green roof and a complex battery permitting process.
  • Siemens Battery dispatch optimization strategies that maximize revenues to the project through various programs.
  • Characteristics of the Calibrant As a Service funding mechanism
