Carter’s announced that its Scope 1 and 2 emissions decreased by 26% in 2024 from a 2019 baseline.

Carter’s announced that its Scope 1 and 2 emissions decreased by 26% in 2024 from a 2019 baseline.

The North American company focused exclusively on apparel for babies and young children achieved the emissions reduction through direct reduction initiatives including LED lighting retrofits for over 40 stores, launching a store remodel initiative incorporating energy-efficient design principles, and maintaining Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certifications for key facilities such as its Atlanta headquarters and Vietnam and Hong Kong sourcing offices.

The company expects its Scope 1 and 2 emissions to remain stable compared to 2023 once its renewable energy credit (REC) purchases in 2025 have been applied to its 2024 emissions inventory.

Carter’s approach to reducing direct emissions focuses on operational efficiency, renewable energy and new technologies across retail locations, distribution centers and corporate offices.

To achieve its 2030 emissions reduction target, Carter’s plans to strategically use RECs to complement its direct reduction efforts. The company purchased 10,000 verified credits to supplement its 2024 emissions reduction efforts and will retroactively apply them in its next inventory.

Since 2023, Carter’s has purchased a total of 34,000 verified RECs.

As published in its fifth annual Raise the Future Impact Report showcasing Carter’s progress in 2024 against its corporate responsibility commitments, the company was named an EPA Green Power Partner for the second consecutive year in recognition of effort toward renewable energy development in the U.S.

“In 2024, we continued to take meaningful steps to build more resilience in our business,” said Antonio Robinson, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, CSR, and Chief Compliance Officer, in a statement. “From our product standards to our climate goals and community partnerships, our actions are anchored in transparency and impact. This report reflects our unwavering commitment to doing what’s right for our business, its current stakeholders, and future generations.”
