HP targets 40% renewable energy by 2020 on path toward 100%
HP Inc. has announced a series of new sustainability commitments, including a pledge to power its global operations entirely with renewable energy.
in the interim. The technology company also promised to reduce the greenhouse gas emission intensity of its product portfolio by 25% by 2020 and achieve zero deforestation by 2020.
The goals were outlined in HP's latest sustainability report. The 2015 report also outlined the company's work in energy efficiency and carbon reductions thus far: In 2015, HP said it reduced its carbon footprint by 11% compared to 2014.
The reduction, the company wrote, is attributable to "the ongoing transition from larger desktops to smaller, less energy- and materials-intensive desktops, notebooks, and tablets, as well as improvements in server energy efficiency and reduced printer sales." The company is pushing for carbon emission reduction across its supply chain, operations and products.
"Climate change is the most challenging environmental issue of our lifetime,” Nate Hurst, HP’s chief sustainability and social impact officer said in a statement. "HP is committed to being an environmental steward; therefore, we continue to measure and reduce the impact of our products, operations and supply chain activities.
