AT&T drives towards 15,000 alternative fuel vehicles

AT&T announced plans to reach 15,000 alternative fuel vehicles on the road by the end of this year.

According to a statement from the company, Jerome Webber, vice president, global fleet and transportation management at AT&T, said, "With one of the largest corporate fleets in the country, it makes sense for our business and our communities that we constantly seek ways to reduce fuel costs and minimize environmental impact."

The statement noted that AT&T has been a leader in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) innovation and application throughout the U.S., investing $565 million dollars into cleaner alternative fuels since 2009 while expanding its fleet each year. "At the time, the move represented the single largest investment in CNG by a U.S. corporation, signaling a shift towards cleaner-burning forms of transportation."

AT&T has partnered with Freedom CNG, which encourages the adoption of clean and affordable CNG, since 2012 for fueling 300 CNG trucks and vans operating in the Houston-Metro area. AT&T currently uses all three of Freedom's Houston area fueling sites and others to ensure total coverage of the area. The company averages 133,000 gallons of CNG annually from these stations, reducing NOx emissions by an average of 119 tons per year.
