McLane deploys electric trucks at Riverside distribution center
McLane Company announced July 7 that they will be deploying pre-electric terminal trucks to their Foodservice distribution center in Riverside, Calif., which are expected to eliminate emissions over a 10-year period equivalent to burning 1.3 million pounds of coal.
The grocery supply chain provider will be receiving the trucks through a partnership with Orange EV, who will be supplying their T-Series yard trucks. The initiative is in line with McLane’s previously established Green Advantage initiatives to lower their carbon footprint.
“McLane strives to stand at the forefront of technological advancements in our industry, so we chose to partner with Orange EV, the manufacturer with the best track record and most developed product,” Dan James, Director of Transportation for McLane, said in a statement. “They aren’t a diesel company building electric yard trucks. Orange EV is an electric yard truck company building electric yard trucks. The difference is clear.”
The trucks are expected to operate more than 7,500 hours annually, which over 10-years will eliminate emissions equivalent to driving a passenger vehicle 2.6 million miles. McLane will be deploying these trucks at their distribution center to comply with California’s recently adopted Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Regulation, which is targeting 100% zero-emission new truck sales by 2045. ACT also requires large companies to report fleet composition and vehicle operations and expands the rules under which diesel fleet operators must operate.
