IBM France to Power Locations with Onshore Wind PPA

IBM's France-based sites and data centers are now using renewable power through a five-year PPA with Boralex Inc. The agreement, signed on January 1, 2021, will supply onshore wind to 55% of IBM’s yearly consumption in the country. The agreement will contribute to IBM's effort to use 100% renewable electricity in France.

IBM’s dedication to sustainability reaches back decades. The company’s first formal corporate environmental policy was issued in 1971. IBM updated its energy and climate goals earlier this year to include a renewable electricity goal to source 75% of its global electricity consumption from renewables by 2025 and 90% by 2030. Attaining these goals will be key to meeting IBM's goal of net zero GHG emissions by 2030.

In a statement, Jay Paidipati, Global Energy Manager, IBM, said, "Increasing our procurement of renewable electricity in France is an important step towards meeting our 5th generation greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal. We value working with Boralex and Axpo on this important project," said Jay Paidipati, Global Energy Manager, IBM.
