Irish Thermo King Facility Wins Carbon Neutral Certification

Trane Technologies announced June 16 that its Thermo King manufacturing facility in Galway, Ireland, was awarded carbon neutrality certification from the National Standards Authority of Ireland.

The facility was the first in Ireland to receive this ISO certification and one of the first in Europe. The carbon neutrality achievement fulfills part of the company’s 2030 sustainability commitments, including reaching net-zero emissions and reducing customer emissions by 1 billion metric tons.

The facility reached carbon neutrality through a combination of upgrading to more efficient equipment used in production, including introducing Advancer A-Series refrigeration units that are 30% more fuel-efficient than the market average. They also focused on external carbon emission reduction initiatives and its emissions reduction targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. Trane Technologies hopes to reduce product emissions by 50% to be in line with the Paris Agreement targets.

“The Advancer and the zero-waste-to-landfill plant in Galway reflect Trane Technologies’ commitment to a sustainable, carbon-free society,” Francesco Incalza, president of Thermo King EMEA for Trane Technologies, said in a statement. “We are proud to receive this certification and continue to prioritize carbon-neutral operations and producing energy efficient, clean technologies for heating and cooling buildings and transporting food, medicines, vaccines, and other critical goods. We challenge what’s possible today to accelerate progress towards a sustainable tomorrow.”
