With energy efficiency increasingly considered to be the cheapest and cleanest energy source, more large users of energy than ever are looking at ways to use less. From May 9 to May 11, speakers from corporations like T.J. Maxx, Starbucks, 3M and Procter and Gamble will convene to share their energy efficiency success stories at the Better Buildings Summit.

The event has also nabbed some big name keynote speakers, including U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.

Held in Washington, D.C., the annual Summit will feature energy efficiency leaders across various sectors with solutions to cut energy intensity in their buildings, portfolio-wide, by 20% over the next decade. The Summit, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, has been designed for partners and stakeholders to exchange best practices and highlight demonstrated market solutions with an equal emphasis on discussing future opportunities for greater energy efficiency in America’s homes and buildings.

This year’s program is separated intro tracks - one each for the commercial, industrial, public, multifamily, residential and data center sectors - to provide attendees with the best possible access to information around best practices and solutions that can be implemented at their own companies. Attendees will participate in the exchange of proven solutions in energy efficiency financing, technologies, organizational strategies, data-driven results and more.

"The Better Buildings Summit started three years ago as a place where leading organizations, and Better Buildings partners can share solutions, learn from each other, and even get a step ahead of their competitors," Maria Vargas, director Better Buildings Challenge at the DOE told Smart Energy Decisions. "We expect more than 800 attendees at this year’s Summit — representing today's leaders in energy efficiency — to delve into the most pressing energy efficiency actions to move our nation forward, faster."

The commercial track’s panel topics range from parking lots to rooftop solar strategies and includes a special workshop on how to communicate the value proposition of energy efficiency projects to corporate finance teams. The DOE has confirmed commercial track speakers that include representatives from Arby’s, Haverty’s, NYSERDA, T.j. Maxx, Starbucks, Whole Foods and more.

On the industrial track, panel topics include successful approaches to reducing energy consumption and finding savings in heating and cooling applications; expert-led seminars on steam, pumps, process heating and compressed air; and the ways smart manufacturing and data analysis can drive energy savings. Confirmed speakers for the industrial track come from organizations such as 3M, General Electric, Johnson and Johnson, and Procter and Gamble and more.

The registration deadline for the event is May 4; for additional information about the event — including a prewritten business case letter to leadership — and its full 2016 program, visit the Summit’s website.
