New York to receive 50 new electric hybrid city buses

New York City Transit (NYCT) will be receiving an order of 50 electric hybrid buses in 2021 to reduce the carbon footprint of the city’s transportation sector.

The buses will feature Allison Transmission’s H 40 EP electric hybrid system and will integrate into the NYCT’s fleet of over 5,700 buses, 60% of which are equipped with Allison Bus Series B 400 and B 500 transmissions.

Over 10,000 state- and city-owned vehicles operating in New York are powered by Allison Transmission.

“Our electric hybrid propulsion system offers New York City a considerable advantage,” Rohan Barua, Vice President of North America Sales at Allison Transmission, said in a statement. “Not only will these systems improve air quality, they are fuel efficient as well. New York City has indicated they will rely on Allison electric hybrids to reduce CO2 emissions in the city, while allowing the city to maintain a durable, reliable, economical fleet.”

New Flyer and Allison Transmission will deliver the 50 buses to the NYCT, the largest transit authority in the United States.
