Chick-fil-A Plans Solar Microgrids for Calif. Restaurants
Three Chick-fil-A restaurants in California will soon be receiving solar-enabled microgrids to increase resiliency and its use of renewable energy.
The systems will be provided by SolMicroGrid through its Energy-as-a-Service program. The installations will include a combination of solar, natural gas generators and on-site storage controlled by an AI dashboard.
If the installations are successful, the pair, alongside financial partner Morgan Stanley Energy Partners, plans to expand microgrid technology across other Chick-fil-A locations across North America.
“This new system will allow us to reduce energy costs while helping us continue to serve our guests even through power outages,” April Farage, a Chick-fil-A operator in Stockton, Calif., said in a statement. “This solution will allow us to provide a place where guests in the community can convene, enjoy a meal and plug in when power may not be available to their homes.”
SolMicroGrid plans to install similar energy systems at other commercial and industrial locations, such as restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores and pharmacies.
