Clario Sets 2045 Goals

Clario, a technology company that delivers endpoint solutions for decentralized (DCT), hybrid, and site-based clinical trials, plans to minimize its carbon footprint and waste production by monitoring and reporting Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions and energy usage and reducing packaging and shipping volumes.

The company is working to mitigate its GHG emissions by approximately 50% in the near term and align with the Paris Agreement to adopt validated science-based targets by 2024 and achieve net zero emissions by 2045. The details were outlined in Clario’s first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report.

Most of Clario’s emissions are related to gray electricity (92% of Scope 1 and 2 emissions), which is followed by natural gas consumption at our Rochester site (5% of scope 1 and 2 emissions). Its St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Estenfeld offices account for 65% of the total Scope 1 and 2 emissions. The St. Louis site alone accounts for 43% of the overall Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which is nearly as much as the total emissions of the bottom 13 sites. The St. Louis site also has the highest emissions in relative terms (per FTE) due to its high energy consumption. The company is actively planning to move out from the St. Louis site to a smaller and more efficient building.

The company’s Scope 3 GHG emissions account for most of its emissions (91%), where two main sources fall under this scope: transportation and distribution (59%) and purchased goods and services (18%).

To mitigate these emissions, Clario is working with its shipping vendors to better understand their emissions and identify the most sustainable options and significantly reduce the weight of its packaging materials, reducing GHG emissions by around 50%.

"Creating a more just and sustainable world is an integral part of Clario's core purpose as an organization," said Joe Eazor, CEO at Clario, in a statement. "Guided by the initiatives outlined in our ESG Report, we are determined to make positive changes both inside and outside of our organization. We are committed to advancing health equity, protecting the environment, implementing innovative operations and becoming a destination employer that supports its people."
