BorgWarner Speeds Up Mobility Electrification

BorgWarner, an automotive supplier, announced progress toward its net zero goal, with 23% of its electricity use coming from renewable sources, a significant increase from 3.5% in 2021. The company aims to support the low-carbon transition, expecting to generate approximately 35% of sales from eProducts in 2025 and 49% in 2027.

The company noted these achievements with the release of its 2023 Sustainability Report, including generating 88% of sales from clean and emissions-reducing products as well as investing 53% of its R&D in electrification products; initiating workstreams dedicated to reducing its Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2031, and reducing overall energy consumption by 13% as a result of several actions such as the use of smart meters at its manufacturing sites.

The company also submitted its targets to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

The continued support of our employees and collaboration with industry partners enables us to build on our momentum, in pursuit of a clean, energy-efficient world and achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.”

To achieve its carbon neutrality goal, BorgWarner is driving action by investing in energy-efficient processes in its plants, renewable energy sources, and dedicated resources within its businesses.

In 2022, it installed new and expanded existing solar panel projects at many of its facilities, including its sites in Chennai, India; Manesar, India; Ningbo, China; and Seixal, Portugal. Across these facilities, solar installations are projected to reduce more than 3,000 metric tons of CO2e per year. BorgWarner also installed solar panels, solar water heaters, and solar tube lighting, as well as received LEED certification.
