Pyxus International Lowers Scope 1 & 2 Emissions by 9.4%

Pyxus International, Inc., a global agricultural company, lowered its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 9.39% and Scope 3 emissions by 11.17% compared to the prior reporting year. the company is committed to achieving net-zero value chain emissions by 2050.

The decrease in Scope 1 and 2 is attributed to the company's successful efforts to transition from unsustainable to sustainable fuel sources, including biomass pellets and solar power.  Scope 3 decreases result from efforts to help contracted farmers embrace sustainable fuel sources for tobacco curing. Pyxus' Scope 3 emissions include farm-level emissions, third-party transport of product, and fuel from company-leased vehicles.

Pyxus has promoted GHG reductions at its contracted farms and works with the farmers as well as customers, industry and other external partners to implement more efficient tobacco curing infrastructures, reduce fertilizer use and implement
climate-smart best practices to improve soil health.

The company also surpassed its global target to reduce total water withdrawal by 10% by 2030, achieving a reduction of 12.87%. This goal was reached despite the expanded scope of the target, which previously encompassed only groundwater consumption.

Details were published in its Fiscal Year 2023 Sustainability Report, detailing the company's progress toward its global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets.

Pyxus is also committed to practicing responsible waste management and the promotion of circularity in it operations to minimize what is sent to landfills.

"Fiscal year 2023 marked our 150th year of business, a significant milestone that highlights the strength and sustainability of our Company," said Pyxus President and CEO Pieter Sikkel, in a statement. "While we have a long history of driving impactful actions, this year's report is a testament to our decision to integrate the Company's business and sustainability strategies and the positive results that stem from that decision."
