Apple Hospitality REIT Conducted Energy Efficiency Measures at Hotels

Apple Hospitality REIT, Inc., which owns Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt-branded hotels, will lower GHG emissions by actively investing in energy efficiency measures, including equipment upgrades and replacements, guest room energy management systems and efficient lighting systems.

The company will evaluate renewable energy opportunities, including wind and solar.

In locations with significant seasonal temperature patterns, the company added guest room energy management systems, which allow more efficient control of HVAC equipment.

Apple Hospitality REIT initiated LED installation projects at the hotels and parking lot lighting fixtures. Three hotels in Portland, Maine are enrolled in a community solar program that supports the production of solar energy for Portland's local power grid.

Over the past year, together with third-party energy consultants, the company enhanced its energy, water and waste data management programs and established an emissions reporting platform.

The company’s investments within the Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt brand families are primarily in rooms-focused hotels, which are more operationally and environmentally efficient than full-service hotels and resorts. The buildings use less electricity, water and natural gas on a per-square-foot basis as compared to full-service hotels and resorts.

Details were published in its annual Corporate Responsibility Report, which details the Company’s environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) performance, strategy and initiatives and features its commitment to environmental sustainability, corporate employees, hotel associates and guests, communities, and other stakeholders.

“Apple Hospitality has always worked to uphold high ESG standards and believes these key areas of focus are an integral part of driving long-term value for our shareholders,” said Justin Knight, Chief Executive Officer of Apple Hospitality in a statement. “As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we are pleased to report Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions for 2022. We are dedicated to the advancement of sustainability initiatives that effectively balance environmental stewardship with our business goals, as well as making a positive impact on our local community and the many communities our hotels serve.”
