Apple partners with China's largest wind manufacturer

Continuing its push into the renewable energy industry, Apple Inc. has reached an agreement with China's largest wind turbine manufacturer.

The tech giant, which is nearing its goal of powering its global operations exclusively with green power, will assume a 30% stake in four of Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co.'s projects, according to a Dec. 7 statement from Goldwind. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. 

Goldwind's statement also said it plans to work with Apple on direct supply and purchases of renewable energy by Apple’s manufacturing partners. Apple, through its previously announced supply chain clean energy program, said in August that it will partner with suppliers in China to install more than 2 GW of new clean energy in the coming years, avoiding over 20 million metric tons of greenhouse gas pollution in the country between now and 2020.

Apple has said that Foxconn has committed to construct 400 MW of solar, starting in Henan province, by 2018, and that the manufacturer is now well on its way to constructing the first 80 MW of that commitment. Another major Chinese supplier of Apple's, glass manufacturer Lens Technology, agreed this year to power all of its Apple-related operations with 100% renewable energy.
