Oshkosh Corporation reaches 17% reduction in energy use

Oshkosh Corporation reported a 17% reduction in energy use since 2014, heading towards a 25% reduction in energy intensity from 2014 to 20024.

The announcement came with the release of Oshkosh’s sixth annual Sustainability Report. “Our focus on sustainability continues to be a core strategy for the company, encompassing people, community, innovation, sustainable operations, an ethical culture and strong governance.,” according to a company statement. Oshkosh is a designer and manufacturer of specialty vehicles and vehicle bodies.

The report noted, “We are steadfast in our commitment to energy management, a key part of our environmental sustainability efforts.” As a member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Plants Program, Oshkosh set their 25% energy reduction goal, which they have since expanded to include their international facilities. Over the past five years, the company reduced energy use at their 20 U.S. manufacturing facilities by 5.8%.

Oshkosh also as a goal to reduce GHG emissions by 25% from 2014 to 024. Since FY2015, their GHG emissions intensity has decreased by 21.6%. The report cited a trucking efficiency program as one of many designed to reduce emissions. “In 2018 we worked with Elite Coatings, a parts-in-process supplier for Oshkosh Defense. We recognized an opportunity to combine incoming loads to better use trailer capacity without any negative impacts to part quality or delivery cadence. This change reduced shipments from Elite Coatings by 40% and reduced CO2 emissions by 62 pounds for every trip we eliminated. It also reduced the time spent planning and tracking delivery schedules and saved the company $10,000 in the first three months alone.”
