Amazon Celebrates 86 New Signatories to The Climate Pledge

Amazon and Global Optimism announced Sept. 20 that 86 new signatories have joined The Climate Pledge, including Procter & Gamble, HP, Salesforce, ASOS and Nespresso.

These companies are now all committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. Amazon estimates that the more than 200 companies that have now signed the Pledge generate in total over $1.8 trillion in global annual revenue and by reaching their net-zero targets will collectively mitigate 1.98 billion metric tons of carbon emissions since 2020.

“I believe that now, more than ever, companies like Amazon have an obligation to lead the fight for our planet,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in a statement. “But, solving this challenge cannot be accomplished by one company; it requires all of us to act together, and it’s one of the reasons we’re so excited to announce that more than 200 businesses have joined us in signing The Climate Pledge—a commitment to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement 10 years early.”

Signatories of The Climate Pledge are committed to measuring and reporting emissions regularly, implementing decarbonization strategies in their businesses and neutralizing remaining emissions with offsets.
