DFDS Adds 100 Electric Heavy-Duty Trucks to Fleet

DFDS announced Oct. 6 that it has placed an order for 100 electric heavy-duty trucks to deploy in its fleet starting in 2022 and 2023.

The European logistics company completed an agreement with Volvo, from which they will receive the electric transport vehicles. The heavy-duty trucks will be able to carry up to 44 tons and travel up to 300 kilometers when fully charged.

The use of the electric trucks within its fleet will help the company reach its goal of reducing emissions by 45% before 2030. DFDS plans to use the trucks in both its short and long journeys.

“At DFDS, we're determined to become carbon neutral and offer a sustainable supply chain for our customers across Europe and Turkey. Electrification is an important element in this journey to reduce our carbon footprint. The electrical trucks will be in operations during 2022 and 2023 replacing conventional trucks,” Niklas Andersson, executive vice president and head of Logistics Division at DFDS, said in a statement.
