Humana Aims for 55% Emissions Reduction

Health insurance company Humana announced its commitment to reducing GHG emissions by 54.6 percent by 2032 from a 2019 base year. The company’s near-term targets have been approved by Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

Humana’s strategies to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions include continued investment and improvements to achieve energy-efficient buildings, transitioning its fleet, and procurement of renewable energy. Humana will also address the approved Scope 3 target partnering with suppliers to set their own science-based targets.

“As Humana transforms healthcare, we focus on strategies that put health first, which include protecting the health of the planet and the health of those who enjoy the communities and environments we serve,” said Bruce Broussard, Humana President and Chief Executive Officer in a statement. “We recognize an undeniable link between physical and emotional well-being and the health of the environment. We are pleased that SBTi has designated Humana as a Business Ambition for 1.5°C company and approved our science-based target.”
