AmerisourceBergen implements efficiency upgrades and rooftop solar
AmerisourceBergen celebrated a slew of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects implemented over the last year with the release of their 2019 Corporate Citizenship Report.
Last year, the pharmaceutical company purchased RECs that account for 8,229 MWh of their energy consumption and reported their total energy consumption at 356,249.73 MWh.
Additionally, last year AmerisourceBergen installed a 2 million kWh rooftop solar system at their Phoenix distribution center and they expect it to generate nearly 50% of the energy needs of the facility. More recently they broke ground on another 2.27 MW on-site project that was made possible through a PPA, this time at their facility in Sacramento.
AmerisourceBergen was also recognized for the efficiency efforts and received LEED CI Gold certification for their Lash Group facility in Kingsley Park, Fort Mill, S.C., for choosing lighting strategies that reduced lighting use in their offices. They also implemented an LED retrofit at their Orlando distribution center, which was estimated to reduce 64.5% of energy costs annually at that location.
“At AmerisourceBergen, we believe it is our responsibility to give back to the communities where we live and work, and we take seriously the role we have to fulfill our promise of strong corporate citizenship,” Steve Collis, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of AmerisourceBergen, said in a statement. “This focus is evident in the dedication among our associates to lessen our impact and unite across the supply chain to create a healthier future for all. We are proud of the strides we’ve made to enhance our sustainability efforts, support our associates holistically and develop healthy communities, and we will never stop striving to do more.”
