Two North Carolina Counties to Install Municipal Solar

A solar energy overhaul being rolled out in North Carolina will soon see more than 40 public buildings in Buncombe County and the City of Asheville retrofitted with solar energy capacity.

EnergyLink began construction on solar installations that should total 6.8 MW of capacity once completed. The solar projects should help both Buncombe County and the City of Asheville substantially reduce their carbon footprints.

The buildings that will receive solar panels across the two locations include public schools, libraries, parking decks, community centers, and more.

“As a company we are focused on undertaking projects that expand our reach within the industry,” EnergyLink CEO Chris Ihler said in a statement. “We have a proven track record with Commercial & Industrial projects and it's time now to start supporting the Municipalities, Universities, Schools, and Hospitals in achieving their sustainability goals too.”

Now that construction has begun on the various solar installations, the arrays are expected to be operational by 2023.
