Businesses and Residents in Virginia to Benefit from 42 MW Solar
Eleven households, municipal buildings and local businesses in Virginia will soon be receiving a combined 42 MW of solar energy capacity through a new project.
The Virginia Clean Economy Act was passed in March 2020 with the intention to spur 16 GW of new solar development in the Commonwealth. Pivot Energy and Clean Footprint announced Oct. 20 a new partnership to contribute to this goal by installing solar energy capacity in the towns of Hurt and Altavista, which will be the location of the first eight solar projects.
Clean Footprint will lead the development of the solar projects, while Pivot Energy will finance, own and operate the portfolio over the long term. The solar energy systems will provide power for local businesses and households and offer local landowners the opportunity to lease out their land to host such projects.
“We are very excited about these upcoming solar projects as they are the first step toward the Town of Hurt going completely green,” Hurt Mayor Gary Hodnett said in a statement. “We are confident that becoming a green community will attract a lot of businesses, especially those in the tech industry since they are typically interested in supporting clean energy.”
