The RealReal joins UN Global Compact

The RealReal announced Sept. 2 that they joined the United Nations Global Compact alongside other fashion brands such as Burberry, Hermes, Kering and LVMH and pledged to be carbon neutral by 2021.

The online marketplace for consigned luxury apparel will adjust their mission to prioritize creating a circular economy and will abide by the UN Global Compact’s 10 universally accepted principles related to human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

“We share the common belief with the UN Global Compact that business should be a force for good,” Julie Wainwright, CEO of The RealReal, said in a statement. “Joining this group of leaders from so many sectors will help us continue expanding our work beyond the fashion industry to advocate for all businesses to hold themselves to the highest standards of environmental and social consciousness.”

The RealReal is also joining the UN Climate Change Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action and will be launching their Sustainability Calculator to quantify the positive environmental impact of consignment.
