Grupo Bimbo Sets 2050 Net-Zero Value Chain Target

Grupo Bimbo announced Nov. 3 its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.

The baking goods company said that it is the first Mexican good company to commit to Business Ambition for 1.5°C and join the United Nation's Race to Zero Campaign. Its targets have also been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

The company has been pursuing strategies of carbon reduction in its business by moving to lower carbon logistics and vehicles and transitioning to 100% renewable energy use. Grupo Bimbo is also supporting suppliers and partners in their own low-carbon transitions and will neutralize its unavoidable emissions by investing in reforestation and carbon sequestration projects.

“I am proud that Grupo Bimbo can continue contributing to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals and is actively looking for ways to limit the damaging effects of global warming,” Chairman and CEO Daniel Servitje said in a statement. “Our new sustainability platform has been defined with long term ambitious goals which are intimately linked to our purpose, to nourish a better world. Grupo Bimbo is a company with a long track record on social and environmental initiatives, as we launch our new platform, we are taking the necessary steps towards fully integrating sustainability with our overall business strategy and publicly committing to continue positively impacting the future.”
