Salesforce vows to advocate for better climate policies

Salesforce announced March 8 that it has incorporated climate action into its public policy platform of the company’s top priorities and is committed to advocating for policies that call for net-zero emissions by 2050.

The cloud-based software company unveiled its plan to advocate for science-based climate policies that facilitate a global commitment emissions reduction. The company previously committed to the targets of the Paris Agreement and reaffirmed the America is All In platform, in addition to joining businesses in a joint letter to the UK Prime Minister advocating for national emissions reduction targets and calling on the EU leaders to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030.

A second key part of Salesforce's climate platform is reorienting economies and financial systems around a net-zero future, by creating market demand for low-carbon products and services. The company already joined business coalitions that urged lawmakers on Capitol Hill to adopt a well-designed carbon pricing policy and encouraged Virginia lawmakers to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

The third part of the policy platform is to ensure an equitable transition to a more resilient society by urging governments to incorporate climate action into their economic recovery plans alongside a UN-backed business coalition.

“It’s not enough for Salesforce, or any company, to only think about its own footprint. Together, we must accelerate change to deliver progress at the scale the world needs. When creating our climate policy principals, we strove to take a holistic approach and worked with a number of global organizations to help guide our efforts,” Suzanne DiBianca, chief impact officer and EVP of corporate relations, and Eric Loeb, EVP of government affairs, said in a statement. “Now, more than ever, we need every business, individual, and community to join us on this journey and use their voice to influence climate policy, helping create a more fair, equal, and better future for all.”
