Philadelphia to Offer Solar Financing for Home and Business Owners

Homeowners and owners of commercial properties in Philadelphia could have access to solar panel financing under a new phase of a project implemented by the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA).

The PEA’s Solarize Philly program is now open for enrollment to support the constriction of solar energy systems on homes and businesses. This marks the fifth phase of the program, which is meant to make the benefits of the program more accessible to all home and business owners.

The PEA is partnering with local and national solar developers for this phase of the program, helping to kick off the third annual Philadelphia Solar Week, which was established by City Council "to raise awareness and shine the spotlight on our growing, affordable, job-creating solar market,” said Emily Schapira, President and CEO of PEA. “We are grateful to our partners, collaborators and City leadership for their support of clean energy in our communities.”

“Philadelphia must do everything we can to fight climate change, which is most greatly affecting our most vulnerable residents,” Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement. “Solarize Philly helps put solar on roofs, and create jobs for our youth, year after year.”

Enrollment is open from now until the end of November.

Since the launch of the Solarize Philly program in 2017, more than 750 homes have installed solar. The program also just completed a pilot to provide grants and low-cost loans for low- and moderate-income households.
