Intel RE Usage Hits 93%

Intel, a semiconductor chip manufacturer, announced its growth of alternative and renewable electricity installations, with usage at 93% in 2022,  up from 80% in 2021.

The company works with local utility providers to develop new contracting mechanisms that facilitate the construction of renewable electricity projects near many of Intel’s sites worldwide, according to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger in an opinion editorial.

With 110 installations across its campuses, Intel is focused on reaching 100% renewable energy usage globally by 2030. The company is also committed to achieving net-positive water and zero waste to landfills by 2030 and achieving net-zero GHG emissions across its global operations by 2040.

Intel is collaborating with the industry and academia to identify, develop, and pilot alternative green chemistry and abatement solutions. It is currently working with the industry association SEMI and the Semiconductor Research Corporation to establish a sustainable semiconductor manufacturing program.

Additionally, the company is increasing energy efficiency and lowering the total carbon footprint of its products and platforms, which helps its customers achieve their sustainability goals. New generations of Intel products, such as the 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, are designed to deliver higher performance using less energy.

“We’re committed to deepening our collaborations to build on our current successes,” Gelsinger said. “Together, we can further drive tech as a force for good – ensuring the scale of our work with others to create a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable world, enabled through technology and the expertise and passion of our employees.”
