Clarios Submits SBTi Goals

Clarios, a company involved in low-voltage battery technologies for transportation, submitted their commitment letter to the Science-Based Target Initiative to establish Scope 1 and 2 GHG targets.

Details were published in its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report detailing the company's leadership in corporate responsibility and sustainability.

The company’s circular supply chain lowers its energy and GHG footprint by using recycled materials versus virgin materials. The reuse of the metals from used batteries results in 90% lower GHG emissions than processing primary ore from a mine. The ability to recycle the plastic from used battery cases decreases the energy required by 90%, compared with virgin plastic made from oil or natural gas.

The PowerFrame® technology embedded in Clarios batteries uses 20% less energy and releases 20% fewer GHG emissions than traditional platemaking manufacturing methods.

Clarios recycles used batteries into new ones, and up to 99% of the material in its batteries can be responsibly recycled, recovered and reused to make new batteries or other products.

"At Clarios, we're dedicated to creating products responsibly, while giving back to the communities we work with and in," said Mark Wallace, Clarios CEO, in a statement. "Our mission is to create the world's best batteries, now and in this evolving future."

The report highlights additional progress to advance the company's ESG governance structure, including a global ESG council that reports to the executive leadership team as well as the ESG and risk committee of the board.

The report also includes the completion of Clarios' first Materiality Assessment, considering both financial and non-financial impacts of identified ESG factors.
