Innovation Summit receives resounding attendance - Smart Energy Decisions

Industry support drives inaugural SED Innovation Summit attendance beyond expectations

With registration now closed for the Smart Energy Decisions Innovation Summit, the number of confirmed energy executive attendees and supplier sponsors for the event has surpassed original expectations.

In addition to 52 energy executives from 41 commercial and industrial organizations such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, CBS Corp., General Motors Co., The Kroger Co., Lockheed Martin, Procter & Gamble and Whole Foods Market Inc., 24 energy services suppliers have signed on as event sponsors, including industry leaders such as presenting sponsor Edison Energy, and platinum sponsors NextEra Energy Resources and Calpine Energy Solutions.

The invitation-only conference will run March 13 through March 15, 2017, in Orlando, Fla. Designed with the help of Smart Energy Decisions' advisory board, the Innovation Summit will feature forward-looking content focused on strategy in both the supply and demand sides of energy management. The objective of the Innovation Summit is to help attendees learn from best practices, make new connections and discover solutions that will help improve their company's results and reduce carbon emissions.

Through a blend of keynote speeches, energy executive-only sessions, panel discussions, case studies presented in boardroom briefings and one-on-one meetings with suppliers, other topics on deck at the Summit include energy procurement strategy; energy efficiency, sourcing renewables; energy information management; energy storage; and emerging technologies.

The event will kick off with a keynote from Allan Schurr, president of Edison Energy, about the estimated $80 billion in energy savings opportunities that have been identified among the country's largest energy users. Following that keynote, Smart Energy Decisions content director Amy Poszywak will interview Adam Kramer, executive vice president of strategy for data center company Switch, about the company's fight for energy independence and its support of a legislative push for Nevada to deregulate its electricity market and "break up the monopoly" of its largest utility, NV Energy. On day two, Poszywak will also interview RJ Johnson, executive director of NextEra Energy Resources, focused on success strategies for commercial and industrial organizations sourcing renewable energy.

Other keynote presentations will be delivered by General Motors Co. global manager of renewable energy Rob Threlkeld, who will open day two with a talk on life cycle energy management; William Hoenigmann, global category manager for energy, Becton Dickinson and Co., who will draw on his experiences for a presentation outlining best practices in aligning energy management and sustainability teams; and David Reid, global energy and productivity leader at Celanese Corp., who will discuss cutting edge strategies in energy data analytics and Celanese's in-house energy data management system.

The conference will also feature a series of panels:

  • Calpine Energy Solutions vice president of commodity sales, Gayle McCutchan, moderating a panel of large end-users on the topic of energy procurement strategies in deregulated markets including Denis George, indirect sourcing coordinator for The Kroger Co.
  • Pat Sapinsley, managing director of cleantech initiatives for ACRE/Urban Future Labs/Powerbridge at New York University's Tandon School of Engineering, Mark Vasu, executive vice president at Greentown Labs, and Jean Redfield, president and CEO at NextEnergy will participate in a panel covering emerging technologies in energy management.
  • Peter Kelly-Detwiler, principal at NorthBridge Energy Partners, will discuss challenges and opportunities for C&I adoption of energy storage with Aaron Daly, global director of energy management at Whole Foods Market and Art Justice, vice president of energy and sustainability at Cinemark.
  • Michael Barry, head of sustainable business operations at Bloomberg LP; Mary Curtiss, global head of energy and sustainability, corporate real estate, at HP and Steve Skarda, global climate and energy leader at Procter & Gamble will discuss renewable energy sourcing on a panel moderated by Poszywak.
