Pfizer to Cover North American Operations with 310 MW of Solar Energy

Pfizer announced Oct. 19 a new power agreement that will provide the biopharmaceutical company with enough solar energy to power 100% of its North American operations.

The company completed a 15-year VPPA with Vesper Energy for 310 MW of renewable energy from its 500 MW Horney Solar project in western Texas. The agreement will support Pfizer’s goal of purchasing 100% renewable energy by 2030.

“At Pfizer, we apply science to the world's greatest health challenges, and that commitment extends to confronting climate change, which has profound societal and public health impacts,” Bill Carapezzi, executive vice president of Global Business Services and Transformation at Pfizer, said in a statement. “We are delighted to enter into this virtual power purchase agreement, which is a significant step towards reaching our 2030 goal to purchase 100% renewable energy.”

The solar project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2023.
