US Foods cut emissions intensity 15% since 2015
US Foods Holding Corp. announced Sept. 30 that they decreased Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity by 15.1% between 2015 and 2019.
The food distributor released their first expanded Corporate Social Responsibility report highlighting their progress on their environmental goals. By the end of 2019, the company was generating 13 million kWh of electricity annually by solar installations on their six distribution centers.
“At US Foods, our CSR platform is built on our long-standing commitment to operating with the highest levels of integrity and a respect for the greater good,” Pietro Satriano, US Foods Chairman and CEO, said in a statement. “We are proud of the progress represented in this report and the hard work of our associates who contributed to these efforts. We look forward to continuing to advance our three pillars of people, planet and products in the year ahead and beyond.”
The new report also detailed ways US Foods has increased their efficiency by instituting operational changes. They improved the efficiency of their fleet by improving route optimization and testing new technologies like compressed natural gas, which reduces emissions 22-29% compared to gas or diesel fuel vehicles.
Since 2015, the company achieved a 12% reduction of energy intensity in their operations and distribution centers. By implementing energy use tracking and optimizing their refrigeration systems and operations through efficiency projects, US Foods saved a cumulative 133 million kWh of electricity since 2015.
